Committed to the Integrity of Families
I'm not here to brag about my ability as an attorney, and if you're convinced by what someone writes about themselves as an attorney on a web page, you're missing it. An attorney is his or her reputation; his or her passion to do great work every day; to lead by serving and compete endlessly. If you know, you know.
What's more important is the person I am.
I am a devoted husband to my wife, Jennell, who is the inspiration of my life. We've been married more than 20 years, and the experience I have gained (alongside all of the mistakes I've made) by watching and learning and listening and receiving my wife's patience inspires me to serve every person who walks into my world.
I have three unbelievable kids, each with incredible talent and potential which is challenged daily by their unique areas of improvement. Like all of us. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Long before I was a practicing attorney, I was a school teacher for 14 years. I count this time dear, especially as it relates to my practice. Law, at the end of the day, is a lesson: taking a party from beginning to end when they couldn't get there themselves, and along the way teaching a lesson (or three).
We all need a passion beyond what we do during the day, something that serves others without taking for ourselves. My passion is coaching. The ability to blueprint a success plan, map it, adhere to it, flex against it to make it better, and lead others to a result they never thought possible on their own: what could be more enjoyable? I live for it.
For almost all of our cases, we use a "flat fee" model of billing to provide our clients with complete transparency, security, and certainty regarding their legal fees. Hourly/Retainer attorneys bill at their discretion, which benefits and protects only them and creates a barrier between client and attorney.
However, the flat fee model incentives the attorney to be results-driven and work to move your case forward.
Unlike many firms, who provide family law as an "add on" to a more traditional practice, I practice only in the areas of family and education law.
This is all I touch and all I do.
There is a substantial advantage to having a specialist as your advocate: the level of experience and day-to-day expertise gets you closer to the end sooner, and you know that the guidance you are being given has been tested time and again.
Let's be honest: most family law cases feel like the forest is burning to the ground around you. And in that moment, you will want your attorney. My cost model provides total and complete access to me. There are no barriers in my practice: no associates, no paralegals. This is by design-- everything that touches my clients life should touch my hands and no one else's.
No other firm can make this claim.
"Toby was great at answering all my questions, no matter how many times I asked them. He also got me through the case as quickly as possible. Highly recommended!."
"I've had a really amazing experience with Toby. He went above and beyond for me and my case. He was very readily available and was always more than willing to explain things and help me understand the process. His patience with not only me, but also when dealing with the opposition is more than noteworthy. The gratitude I have for the Sterling offices and all they have done for me and my case is immeasurable. I would highly recommend using their services."
"I went and met with numerous firms before meeting and selecting Toby. I am BEYOND grateful and satisfied having Toby and his team. His commitment, buy-in, knowledge, and diligence was second to none. Being a flat fee service had me nervous at first but every effort was put into minimizing the additional steps or tiers needed and no resourcing or corners were cut. He was ultra-responsive, caring, invested and treated me like family. I will recommend Toby to everyone I meet in need of a great lawyer!"
"I had an excellent experience working with Toby. He made the potentially stressful and difficult process of creating a Prenuptial Agreement simple, fast and easy. He made sure things were handled promptly, professionally and to the letter and spirit of marital law. He recommend my current wife obtain a lawyer as well, which she did, so her interests would be represented properly and to also make sure both parties were in mutual agreement and understood the terms. Due to my Wife and my busy work schedule, we were unable to visit the office in person, but he accommodated us and we were able to handle everything remotely! I would highly recommend Toby to anyone considering obtaining a Prenuptial Agreement.."
"My only regret is that I didn't have Toby for my divorce. I got hammered and honestly was hung out to dry by an attorney who was intimidated and lazy. Toby was relentless from the jump. He handled my case brilliantly, and the massive mistakes my first lawyer made were addressed and rectified through Toby's advocacy."
"The experience I had with Toby was nothing short of exceptional and first class. Toby was always able to answer every question I had and took time to make sure I understood everything before moving on. Toby is a dedicated and kind attorney who gives 110% to his clients. I would highly recommend his firm if you are going through a divorce."
"I had a great experience with Toby. He did a great job. He made himself available by phone and email, he answered my questions, and he’s super easy to talk to. I was able to get what I wanted in my divorce. He sent all the necessary paperwork, and called to make sure I understood everything, and answered any questions I had. He would also do follow up calls to make sure he had helped me with everything, and if I had any more questions. I’m really glad I got in contact with Toby."
"I came to Toby having little faith with lawyers due to a bad experience... he helped gain full confidence back and helped get me full custody of my son!!!! He was great understanding and made me feel every comfortable.. I will recomend him to anyone that needs.. I am so truly grateful for all his help.... I highly recommend him and it was a very positive experience"
"I walked in knowing in my head what I wanted but it felt so out of reach. Toby made that dream come true and our family will forever be indebted to him. He goes above and beyond to make sure you’re informed every step of the way and truly care about their clients. Couldn’t be more happy to have hired Toby as he gets things done!."
"Toby helped us through this divorce process, and even though it was stressful, he did a good job as our mediator. He is very kindhearted and helpful. The speed at which the divorce ended is much quicker than what we thought it would be."
"Honestly, ours was a super tough divorce to work through, with kids involved, and planned placement very far from one parent. Going into it, I never thought we’d be able to mediate our way to an okay outcome for both of us, but Toby was a skilled and respectful professional in handling our emotions and the difficult discussions, and helping us navigate the divorce process. So thankful we chose Toby!"
"I was looking for direction and advice and Toby delivered both. He was intuitive, listened to my case and gave me solid options and direction for moving forward. Along with being truthful and to the point he certainly was genuine with all his advice. I would definitely recommend Toby. Thanks.."
